The Great Sindhi Overseas Weddings are now being held more in destination cities than the city of residence of the bride or the groom. Bali is the unofficial wedding capital of the world followed by Phuket, Thailand.
Cruise weddings are gaining grounds too.
Before I continue with my article, think of this. I wish to translate KACHI MISRI in English, and I need your attention. “Misri” or engagements if “KACHI” does it mean TEMPORARY? Don’t you think it should be PRE ENGAGMENT?
If the plural of Mouse is MICE, then don’t you think the plural of SPOUSE should be SPICE?
I just returned from two weddings, one in Bali {MIRPURI-BHAVNANI]} and the other in Pune {Daswani-Hathiramani}.
Over a period of time, I spoke with a cross section of Sindhis, young and old, drunk and sober, male female and Dostana, obese and those on diet, and COO of some companies. That means Child Of the Owner.
What are the reasons people are doing weddings overseas?
The foremost reason is that in some cities the number of invitees easily crosses a thousand or more. In other cities CPP is expensive, and in some cities like HK costs a fortune going as high as US$ 150 cost per plate at a5 star venue.
If overseas transportation problem is practically solved since most occasions could be held at one hotel, using their various function rooms.
Third in some countries it might not be good to show off due to its political climate. You could always have one party as a compensation for those who did not attend the wedding.
You have wedding planners who will do a lot for you, including re using props from a previous wedding. Change of colours and slight brush up solves any defects. You cannot do that in your own country since the guests are local who will have definitely been invited to the previous wedding.
They would recommend singers and dancers, and food varieties that flopped. Over the years they would keep on improving relations and facilities would be getting better.
Most hotels provide breakfast as part of the guest rooms. One meal less for the host to worry about.
Cruise weddings are great too expect for the wedding occasion where you need a venue to light fire. This is difficult to get in a cruise ship.
New concepts are much needed to make a wedding attractive. Recently I saw for the first time a movable drink bar. The female bartender was in the centre of a round table with wheels and table cloth up to the floor level to cover the wheels.
And also an open house room from 9 am to 7 pm. Free computer usage, sandwiches and cakes, items for Pato and Poker lovers, some interesting books, Sudoku, candies and chocolates and drinks.
Sindhi Dimag.
A guest from USA pointed out an interesting fact. The host could secure lots of mileage from Hotel charges of rooms and food. Hence, it is advisable to get a Hotel membership in order once you have confirmed the hotel. Even points from airline tickets and hotel rooms paid by the host for close friends and relatives, could be credited to your account. Some hotels might even allow all billings of guests who pay their own but are entitled to points, could be credited to the account of the host.
SINDHI way of doing Business
Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House in D.C. One from Bangladesh, another from India and the third, from China. They go to a White House office to examine the fence.
The Bangladesh contractor takes guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"
The Indian contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from China to fix the fence. "Done!" reply the government official.
