…….I mean in a nutshell … by Vishnu Hathiramani vishnu@zpdee.net

I have just returned from Bangkok as had to attend two weddings. Great place, great people and great food. Imagine having Sambar, Dosas, Chola Battura and Uppama beside the regular buffet of Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Western/European Breakfast.

In another security measure, the hotel I stayed issued your room key with a security code which limits your use of elevator exit to only the floor you are staying. Going to the Lobby via the elevator no key is required, since a companion in your room might need the key to insert in their electric switch for the lights and air con to work in the room.

Just found out that many times newly wedded couples do not go for their honeymoon immediately but maybe a few weeks or months later. But sometimes they just go away for 2 or 3 days immediately after the wedding to a nearby resort, city or country. In this case, this is not a honeymoon but a MINIMOON.

Youngsters do have a great time in these parties. I made a survey on a question which I asked 20 peoples. The question was: “What is the best thing of a Sindhi Overseas wedding?” I got interesting answers which are listed below. The questions cuts across age, gender, thinking and more.

To balance it out, as suggested by someone, I ask another question to many but only few answered. The question: “What is the negative part of having an overseas Sindhi wedding?”

Take note that the answers do not reflect the two weddings I attended but are general in nature. This was a clear understanding I made when I posed these questions.

“What is the best thing of a Sindhi Overseas wedding?”

BHAGWAN PESSUMAL OF MANILA: It brings families and friends together.

KUMAR MIRCHANDANI OF HK: Food.

SUSHI GURNAMAL OF MANILA: Merry making and enjoyment.

MEENA SAHIJWANI OF MANILA: Eating and Meeting.

KAMLESH CHANDIRAMANI OF HK: Bonding of the younger and the older generation.

DOLLY SEHWANI OF MANILA: Music and Clothes.

PRITI MAHTANI OF SINGAPORE: Wedding ceremony and the Pheras. And do not forget the Dancing.

RENU HARDASANI OF MANILA: Family reunions and meeting with friends.

VANDANA MAHIBUBANI OF MANILA. Getting closer to the relatives. All occasions under one roof.

GULI SEHWANI OF MANILA: Keep on drinking since you do not have to drive. [But Guli, you have to take the elevator]

HITESH HIRANANDANI OF HK: Near and dear ones are around you. {Including the future ones?]

MAHESH P. MIRPURI OF MANILA: No work, man.

NANIK CHOTRANI OF MANILA: Friends, friends and friends around you,

DINO KHEMANI OF HK: Music.

RAJ CHUGH OF HK: CELEBRATION OF TOGATHERNESS [as mentioned in his speech]

SHERINA LACHMANDAS OF HK: More personal. People that matters are around you.

RAJIV CHANDIRAMANI OF USA: Partying, Alcohol, Music and the females.

NENA BHARWANI OF JAKARTA: Different Maharajas have different way of doing things. Very Interesting. Fun and you get to know more people.

MALA BHOJWANI OF JAKARTA: No traffic to go to the party since same building. Relaxing and meeting relatives.

KAVITA LALCHANDANI OF USA: Wonderful experience. Same roof for the entire wedding parties,

Two other persons were interviewed but I overlooked to write their names:

1. No curfew and time frame. Good for match making. Being like one family.
2. Charmed. Total package of funfair.

“What is the negative part of having an overseas Sindhi wedding?”

DOLLY SITALDAS OF MANILA: Parties should be less formal so we bring fewer clothes.

AMIT CHANDIRAMANI OF USA: Having an Uncle and Aunty or a relative next door to your room.

BHAGU SITALDAS OF MANILA. 1. Expenses. 2. Having a Teenager as your next room occupant who come after the party and parties some more in his room with loud music.

CHANDRA IDANMAL OF MANILA: It is a great tension for those organizing it and the host families.

BUNTY LALCHANDANI OF USA: Jet lag.

RITA MENGHRAJANI OF MANILA: Hassle of bringing formal clothes and making sure nothing is forgotten since matching clothes is important for an Indian outfit.

SANJU HARGUN OF BANGKOK: Getting up in the morning, after the party.

KAREENA MAHIBUBANI OF MANILA: Finding the right places for shopping, eating and other needs.

DHIRAJ ODRANI OF MUMBAI: Too much food and appetizers.

Best wishes to all those who got married and those who are getting married.

Jhule Lal.
