DELHI CITY HONORS A SINDHI BY NAMING A ROAD IN
HIS HONOR IN THE LAJPAT NAGAR AREA.

New Delhi: An inspiring ceremony was organized by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (“MCD”) and the Government of Delhi to commemorate naming of a road in Lajpat Nagar, South Delhi - Padmashri Dr. Motilal Jotwani Marg.

Partition in 1947 saw hordes of Sindhis migrating to India from Sukkur, Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana in Pakistan.  As Sindhis did not have any state in the new India, they inter-mixed with local population throughout the country.  Many of them had to struggle and re-establish themselves in harsh conditions.  Lajpat Nagar is one such Sindhi migrant locality in South Delhi, where the Sindhi community has preserved its identity, culture and have risen in all sphere of modern lives.

A dedication of road in Lajpat Nagar is rightful tribute and honor to Padmashri Dr. Motilal Jotwani, an author, writer, poet and scholar. Honoured with the highest award Padmashri bestowed by the President of India in the year 2003, Dr. Jotwani signifies the true struggle, culture, tradition and rise of migrant Sindhis in India.

The event was blessed by senior Government officials and Politicians, including, Ms. Rajni Abbi, Mayor Delhi, Sri Ram Jethmalani, Member of Parliament and Former Law Minister of India, Shri M.K. Jaitley, Vice Chairman, Sindhi Akademi , Dr. Wg. Cdr. Nanadlal Jotwani, Commissioner, Linguistic Minorities of India,  Ms. Aarti Mehra, Former Mayor, Delhi,  Shri B.P. Mandal, Councillor, Delhi.

Ms. Rajni Abbi- Mayor, Delhi exhorted the virtues of Sindhis in building Delhi, both culturally and economically.  As a Mayor of Delhi, she expressed her gratitude to hard working and honest Sindhi community, who support Municipal Corporation of Delhi as small Vendors and businesses and contributed to achieving its goals.

Mr. Jethmalani mentioned that Secularism is way of life and ingrained in Sindhis right from the time they are born. They do not need any Government or Constitution to teach them the definition of Secularism. Mr. Jethmalani promised that he will devote rest of his life in bringing back the black-money that is illegally stashed away by Indians in foreign accounts and he prayed to God to give him a few more years of strength to get this money back to India and return his debt of gratitude towards this great country. 

The event also saw patriotic songs and cultural programs by the children of Baba Nebhraj Sindhi School, Lajpat Nagar.  An art exhibition presenting the works of Padmashri Dr. Motilal Jotwani was displayed.
